What A Long, Strange Trip It’s Been

Monday, September 5th, 2011

So it’s been close to two months since I’ve graduated, and an entire month since I’ve been back. A lot has happened, some fun, some less than fun, and some downright disgusting.

I’ve not been playing WoW or DotA as anticipated, and when I am bored at home, I do fill the time up by trying to finish Final Fantasy XIII. Since I got a free PS3 with a Television purchase, I decided to hack my older PS3.

Much has happened since the hacking scene for the PS3 kicked in {thanks to the Chinese Hackers and failoverfl0w} and as usual Geohot took credit for everything. Nonetheless, the hacking scene is now at a stage where they’ve introduced Custom Firmware {CFW} that you may use on your PS3.

The hacking was pretty flawless, and I decided to use a Russian hackers CFW, because hey, Russians are very good hackers. In about 10 to 15 minutes, the CFW was running and I installed a backup manager.

Now the PS3 is hacked, and it opens it up to a myriad of options! I’ve been using an FTP function to watch 1080p Blu-Ray movies in all her glory on my TV. I’ve been able to play some older emulated games on my PS3. The stretched image is far from perfect, but it’s a small price to pay to relive those nostalgic days!

Raya came and went, and I decided that I needed to get myself a decent wallet. I found one on Ebay of Australia and I had it shipped to me. Here are some unboxing pictures of my new wallet!

This is how the wallet was packaged. It was well packaged, and the box was sturdy and had little to no defects upon collection. I had to collect it from POS LAJU because there were no deliveries due to Raya. It would have been delivered had I waited till Friday, but patience isn’t what I’m known for.

Inside this cardboard box, was another black box. It was also undamaged, and looked pretty good. I was excited to get my hands on my new wallet!

Inside the black box was a black metal case covered by Plastic. The environmentalist in me was fuming, and I removed the plastic without any thoughts.

The metal case was reflective, and was pretty heavy. I was in awe the extent the manufacturer of the wallet went to for the delivery of his product. Such dedication is extinct in this day and age.

Opened the case and I was confused. There was no wallet? Have I been conned? By an Australian, no less? Did I fall for his Crickey Mate! I swear I’m legit? I was angry, but I thought to myself, perhaps he forgot to send me the wallet. Regardless, I decided to go through the contents.

Apex booklet included with pretty pictures!

Pretty informative with all kinds of information that has nothing to do with my field of study.

A keychain and a USB thumbdrive. Not too familiar with the size though.

Proof that it is a USB thumbdrive.

Another booklet that was included, which has in-game pictures of the cars available in GT-5. This is the elusive DB9.

IMG_20110905_232008

A car model was included! It looks pretty authentic!

Orange! Oh My! Nais!

IMG_20110905_232021

Seal of Authenticity by Daimler themselves? Wow!

When I removed the booklet and the car model, I was ecstatic and pleasantly surprised! The wallet was hidden underneath it! Here I was thinking the seller conned me, and BAM, there it is, as right as rain. Boy am I glad that I didn’t accuse the seller of conning me and making a fool of myself!

Yay, I’m happy. I’ve gotten the Wallet that I ordered! Now to fill it up with nice cards that are all either in severe debt or empty.

So I’m stuck on a long queue on the World of Warcraft servers, (behind 500) people, so I figured, I’d write here, since it’s been quite a long time since I penned my thoughts.

First things first, I’ll be graduating soon; July 28th to be exact (I think; at this point I don’t even know when my exam dates are). It’s been a long journey, almost 6 years, and the notion that you’re still living off of your parents at the age of 25 is quite unappealing, but hey, at least that’s about to change soon. It’s a twin-edged blade, I’m afraid, let me elaborate;

On one hand, I’m quite excited at the prospect of working, the wonderful world that is medical services, to start utilizing the mountainous amount of theory we’ve been exposed to all these years, to start honing my skills, to start my rounds, to tag, to clerk, to make a difference, so to speak. It’s all pretty intimidating, and exciting at the same time, and I frankly can’t wait to jump in and get started.

On the other hand, I have the constant incessant feeling at the back of my ears, kinda like an itch that you can’t reach, that keeps reminding me the bad press fresh doctors are getting. I suppose this has always been the case, however, in the era of the internet, posting your experiences online has been easier than ever, and for it to be picked up by the media is all too easy. I suppose this is a good thing, for me and others to buck up and do our best, and as such I’ll treat it that way. It’s just a small hurdle we’ll have to get through, before we establish ourselves. If it comes easy, nobody will appreciate it, if it comes hard, you know you deserve it. I’ll always remember what my mother said the day I was leaving KLIA for the first time; “Any idiot can become a doctor, as you’ll soon see when you get there, don’t worry about it and just focus on finishing and coming back.”

At that point, it didn’t make too much sense, but the moment I landed, boy I knew what she meant. Of course I often hear the stories that she shared with me about her student days, her houseman and medical officer days and some of them are pretty funny. People reading ECG’s incorrectly, incorrect branula/cannula placement, auscultating without earpieces in the actual ear, so on and so forth. As good as it was for a chuckle, it reinforced the fact that yea, shit happens, move on.

Enough about all this wishy washy education nonsense, lets get to more important things. I’ve not played DotA as much these days. To be frank, I am quite bored of it, which is good because I planned to quit as soon as I graduate. People say I’m addicted, but it’s not true. Unlike smokers who say I can quit anytime, I actually can Winking smile. Most of my time is occupied by World of Warcraft these days, and I can see why people are addicted to this shit. It’s a fun game, and the experience you get raiding with your guildmates or other players online is unique, and especially if they use ventrillo or teamspeak, it gets a tad bit better. However, with all things, I know I won’t be on WoW when I get back, I’ll have my PS3 Winking smile

You may say I’m just jumping from one addiction to another, but trust me, it’s not. Just filling up some time. (At this point of time, I’m number 126 behind the queue; so I’ll have to end this article shortly).

Let’s talk about the people around us; because hey, we’re judgmental. So I know her for 6 long years, and we hang out quite a bit, so I’d like to think I know a little about her. She’s got this online persona on twitter where she sounds completely different; and claims it’s just a different side of her that we’ve not seen. I guess it’s kinda true that the anonymity of the internet allows us to make decisions that we otherwise would not do in real life, or at least that applies to be true for me. Abilash thinks she needs Jesus, but personally, I just think she needs to get laid.

Another close friend seems to be in some kind of bitter-sweet situation that I can’t put my hands on, it’s a neither here nor there kind of thing, and I can’t explain without revealing too much. I’m not sure how he plans to rectify the situation, but I’m quite saddened that I can’t help him. He’s a smart chap, and I don’t understand the decisions he’s made, but if they are his own, then I’ll just have to respect them. To my homie, GG, just make sure it’s a NO RE.

OH LOOK, THE QUEUE IS OVER, I CAN NOW LOG IN. BYE!
